GERLS Awarding Ceremony 2019/2020
In the framework of the 11th call of the German Egyptian Long-term Scholarship Programme (GERLS), the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MHESR) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) have celebrated the GERLS Awarding Ceremony at the premises of the DAAD in Zamalek on 27th November 2019. The event took place in the presence of Mr. Philippe Maupai, Head of Science Department at the German Embassy in Cairo, Prof. Mohamed El-Shinawi, Advisor to the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Ms. Isabell Mering, the Director of the DAAD Cairo Office.
11 of 72 applicants have succeeded a very rigid pre- and final selection procedure and completed all formalities required. The scholars will spend up to 4 years at a university in Germany to conduct their research projects in different academic fields and specializations.
The percentage of female scholarship holders selected in 2019-2020 amounts to 55%.
Among the great variety of scientific fields promoted by the programme, the study of Biology (37%) and Medicine (27%) are the most predominant research specializations.
