Within the scope of the COSIMENA clusters, the COSIMENA project offers support to a great variety of events, which range from scholarly evening lectures to summer/winter schools and scientific conferences.

COSIMENA-Funded Summer School 2024: Strengthening Transboundary Research in One Health in MENA Region
Summer School
From Saturday, September 28th, 2024, to Tuesday, October 8th, 2024, the DAAD Regional Office Cairo, in collaboration with Badr University in Cairo and Leipzig University, organized a 10-day summer school entitled "Strengthening Transboundary Research in One Health in MENA Region." This extended event took place within the framework of the project "Clusters of Scientific Innovation in the Middle East and North Africa" (COSIMENA), as part of the COSIMENA Call for Funding 2024 focusing on building a solid network between researchers coming from the MENA Region and Germany in order to forge future collaborations that address health problems and develop efficient hygiene management systems in the context of One-health approach.
Inclusive Universities and Sustainable Development Goals

On Sunday, September 30th, 2024, and Monday, October 1st, 2024, the DAAD Regional Office Cairo, in collaboration with Galala University and Technische Universität Dresden (TU Dresden), organized a two-day workshop entitled "Inclusive Universities and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)." This event took place within the framework of the project "Clusters of Scientific Innovation in the Middle East and North Africa" (COSIMENA), as part of the COSIMENA Call for Funding 2024, focusing on fostering inclusivity and sustainable development in higher education.
COSIMENA-Funded Workshop: Bridging Research to Revenue

On Thursday, October 17, 2024, the DAAD Regional Office Cairo organised a workshop entitled “Bridging Research to Revenue”, which took place within the framework of the Clusters of Scientific Innovation in the Middle East and North Africa (COSIMENA) project in cooperation with the German University in Cairo, as part of the COSIMENA Call for Funding 2024. This event focused on the commercialization of medical
image processing innovations (MI Innovations), bringing together key academics, researchers, and industry leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities involved in transforming academic research into commercially viable solutions.
COSIMENA-Funded Winter School on Sustainability and Climate Resilience in the Red Sea

The DAAD Regional Office Cairo, in collaboration with Galala University (Architectural Design Programme, headed by Prof. Maged Zagow) and University of Kassel (Chair of Urban Regeneration and Planning Theory, headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Uwe Altrock), organised a weeklong Winter School on “Sustainability and Climate Resilience in the Red Sea” from October 26th to November 1st, 2024, including an online phase as well as an onsite phase. This event took place within the framework of the DAAD project "Clusters of Scientific Innovation in the Middle East and North Africa" (COSIMENA), which aimed to enhance participants' skills in Geographic Information System (GIS) applications for climate resilience.
COSIMENA-funded Symposium: Empowering Young Academics to Shape Climate-Resilient Urban Futures in the Arab Region

The DAAD Regional Office Cairo organized a two-day event to discuss urban sustainability, climate resilience, and the role of education and community-driven solutions in addressing the challenges faced by cities across the Arab region. The "Symposium: Empowering Young Academics to Shape Climate-Resilient Urban Futures in the Arab Region" took place on Sunday, November 11th and Monday, November 12th, 2024, at the DAAD premises in Zamalek, within the framework of the DAAD project "Clusters of Scientific Innovation in the Middle East and North Africa" (COSIMENA) and in cooperation with Technische Universität Berlin. The event brought together urban planners, researchers, academics, non-governmental institutions’ representatives, and professionals in urban planning, architecture, and sustainable development to discuss how cities can adapt to climate change while promoting social equity and environmental stewardship.

With the support of the DAAD Regional Office in Cairo, Mansoura University in Dakahlia Governorate, Northern Egypt, hosted the German-MENA Industry and Technology Exchange (GERMINATE) Symposium, which took place on Sunday, November 17th, and Monday, November 18th, 2024, within the framework of the DAAD project "Clusters of Scientific Innovation in the Middle East and North Africa" (COSIMENA), as part of the project’s call for funding 2024.
COSIMENA-Funded Workshop: Caring Cities as Key Component of Sustainable Communities

The DAAD Regional Office Cairo organised a two-day workshop to integrate the concept of "Caring City" into sustainable architecture and urban design within the framework of socio-ecological transformation. The workshop entitled “Caring Cities as Key Component of Sustainable Communities" took place on Monday, November 25th, and Tuesday, November 26th, 2024, at the DAAD premises in Zamalek, within the framework of the project "Clusters of Scientific Innovation in the Middle East and North Africa" (COSIMENA) and outlines a collaborative exchange between Bauhaus Universität Weimar, Germany, and Helwan University in Cairo, Egypt. The workshop's target audience was the students of the Sustainable Architecture and Urban Design program at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Helwan University.
