Science Communication & Science Journalism 2023 Training and Workshop

Between Sunday, October 29th, and Thursday, November 2nd, 2023, the DAAD Regional Office in Cairo organised a training and workshop on “Science Communication and Science Journalism”. In light of the current global context, which requires the dissemination of reliable scientific information on an increasingly large variety of topics, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, without doubt gaining scientific communication skills has become fundamental. In acknowledging this urgent need, this five-day workshop offered the opportunity to twenty-two researchers and scientists residing in Egypt from various fields of specialisation to develop their skills in effective science communication through a combination of theoretical discussions and practical exercises. In this context, under the guidance of two long-time experienced practitioners in the field of science communication based in Berlin, Ms Kerstin Hoppenhaus and Mr Kai Kupferschmidt, participants could explore the different strategies to talk science to non-scientists and to interact with journalists for the purpose of the divulgation of their scientific knowledge.
